Sara and her siblings grew up in the surrounding Auburn area. They knew when it came time, their parents had always expected to move into Wesley Lea Hill in Auburn. They had friends living on campus and would participate in the organized activities. In September 2019, her parents made the move into independent living. She didn’t expect how quickly her parents began to need daily assistance.
“My parents talked about moving to Lea Hill for years. When they finally decided to move, it uncovered how well my mother disguised her cognitive decline. They needed more help than we realized. My brothers and I started researching other options for memory care and quickly learned Wesley was the place to be. Our parents may have picked Wesley, but it was their kids who chose to keep them there,” said Sara.
When it came time to move to memory care, Lea Hill didn’t have any openings. However, an apartment was available in The Arbor at Wesley Bradley Park in Puyallup so Sara and her siblings helped their parents move there. The family appreciates the campus conveniences, such as the beautiful furnishings, organized activities, nutrition planning, onsite medical services and staff to assist with daily living and personal care needs.
“Wesley has by far the best quality of care. It’s the best place out there for us. I live an hour away. It takes the pressure off the family knowing our parents are safe and have staff with them 24/7, so if something were to happen in the middle of the night, I could rely on them,” explained Sara. “The staff is incredibly caring and welcoming. I trust them to do what’s right for my parents. They are in constant communication with me. Even during COVID, when there was no access, the staff stepped up to find alternative ways to connect through video calls. With their help, we were able to stay in communication with my parents. The high level of trust and comfort has formed a community. We’ve gotten to know the staff, residents, and their families through activities and family meals. You come to think of them as more than staff, but as family.”
Wesley’s program in The Arbor provides licensed memory care assisted living in a secure residential setting. Spacious apartments with full kitchens and private bathrooms allow couples to stay together while receiving the specialized care one or both of them need. Wesley offers The Arbor at Wesley Lea Hill in Auburn, Wesley Bradley Park in Puyallup and Wesley at Tehaleh in Bonney Lake. It is coming soon to Wesley Des Moines.
“My parents weren’t able to stay in their own home, and as their children, we couldn’t give them the support they required. I wish they would have made the move sooner. They would have enjoyed the amenities, activities and the residents longer. Sooner would have been better,” Sara said.
